Juan Cardona was born in Cali, Colombia, in 1997 and raised in Miami, Florida. He graduated from the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at The Cooper Union with a Bachelor’s degree in architecture in 2021. Based in New York City, Cardona works at the intersections of art and design, exploring the interplay between these disciplines to address their shared concerns: aesthetics, perception, and materiality—both physical and digital.
Cardona’s practice combines traditional and experimental approaches, engaging with a range of mediums to investigate how images and forms operate across different contexts. His work examines the ways in which material processes, both tangible and virtual, transform meaning and perception. Through this exploration, Cardona uncovers new relationships between recognizable imagery and abstraction, allowing his work to reflect a constant negotiation between the familiar and the unexpected.
